With thirty-five years of diverse experience in teaching and serving in the corporate and development sector Dr. Sono Khangaraniis well known in Rural Support Programmes(RSPs) and NGO sector in Pakistan with established credibility, honesty and hard work as a teacher, trainer and mentor not only in professional cadre but in communities and academic institutions as well. He has worked all over Pakistan to improve the productivity of livestock through designing and accomplishing NRM development strategies/policies for community organizations at NRSP. To his credit is the experience of working as a scientist specializing in bovine embryo transfer technology at the Agriculture Development Bank of Pakistan. As a project director at Tharparkar Rural Development Programme, he transformed an internationally managed relief cum development project into a fully autonomous local NGO with its vision, mission, goals, and strategies, developing programme strategies. He, with genuine and continuous support from Save the Children, successfully launched a local NGO, Thardeep Rural Development Programme, in 1998.
As a rural development professional, he has a long understanding of working in rural and underprivileged areas of Punjab, NWFP, Balochistan, and Sindh including the “THAR desert”. He also has experience in studying the cultural values of different clans and communities of rural Pakistan. He has been involved as a member and Honorary Director on different forums such as the Pakistan Micro-finance Network, and Rural Support Programme Network, a Member of the provisional steering committee on decentralisation and devolution plan, and a member of the national committee on micro-finance set by the State Bank of Pakistan. Besides, he has also received several professional training in recognised universities and training institutes nationally and internationally including the Summer School of Save the Children Kathmandu.
Currently, he is serving as CEO of Thardeep Microfinance Foundation, which works in Sindh and is one of the largest service providers in the local context.
