Mr. Gul Najam Jamy is a recognized expert in energy efficiency, environmental management and institution development. Since January 2014 he is working as Senior Technical Advisor at the World Bank in Pakistan. Earlier he was Assistant Country Director/Chief, Environment & Climate Change at UNDP Pakistan from May 2012 to December 2013. From 2010-2012 he was Director General (Operations) of the Benazir Income Support Programme where he was responsible for overseeing the conduct of the largest socio-economic survey in South Asia covering over 27 million households. Prior to it, he was Program Manager, Civil Society Program at the Aga Khan Foundation Pakistan, from 2006-2010, where his work focused on strengthening of civil society sector, creating links among civil society, business and public sector and promoting corporate social responsibility.

Mr. Jamy has also worked for IUCN-The World Conservation Union in various capacities in Pakistan, from 1996 to 2006, focusing on development of conservation and sustainable development strategies in all four provinces and two regions in the country. At IUCN he was also responsible for policy formulation and management of large projects on mainstreaming environment in development planning processes. As a senior federal government officer, he worked as a Deputy Chief for 8 years (1988 – 1996) at the Planning Commission, Ministry of Water and Power and Ministry of Environment.

Mr. Jamy has a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from UET Lahore, a Masters in Environmental Engineering from Kyoto University, Japan (1984-87) and an MBA from Pakistan. He attended the Osaka University of Foreign Languages from October 1983-March 1984 and later passed Level 1 of the Japanese Proficiency Test in 1987.

Mr. Jamy has attended several advance courses related to energy, environment and sustainable development at prestigious universities and institutions in the USA, UK, Spain, Switzerland, Japan and Austria. He has also authored and published several papers on energy, environment, alternate energy sources etc. in national and international journals.
